For its third chapter, Vulai left Western Kenya behind and chased the tide. The Beach Hangout traded showgrounds and convention halls for the white sand of Nyali, turning The Reef Hotel into an all-day, all-night meeting point for the coast and the highlands.
It started slow and golden. Sundowner sets eased the crowd in while the sky went orange over the Indian Ocean — the kind of opening you can only get with the sea in the frame. Then the energy turned over. Fifteen artists deep, the lineup refused to sit in one lane: comedy bled into gospel, gospel into hip-hop, and traditional Luhya music held the whole thing together like a spine.
Opeta Wa Musungu, Devrix Dafubu, Amoh! A Boy from Lubao and Sila Wa Sila each took the night somewhere new, and DJ Wallet kept the floor moving between sets so the momentum never dropped. By the time the last record played, the hangout had become something closer to a homecoming for a community that travelled a long way to be there.
The Beach Hangout proved Vulai travels well. The drums, the language and the food are rooted in Western Kenya — but the feeling, it turns out, plays just as loud with your feet in the sand.
VibePass ran the ticketing end to end for this one — presale, instant M-Pesa checkout, and the QR scans that got the crowd onto the sand without a line at the gate. It's the kind of event this platform was built for.
