Every movement has a first night. For Vulai, it was 2 August 2025, when the inaugural festival lit up the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in the heart of Nairobi — from dusk till dawn.
The whole idea was on the line that evening: could Luhya music, dance and story hold a major Nairobi stage on their own terms? The answer came in the first hour. Drum patterns blended with modern bass, traditional dress met streetwear in the crowd, and every chorus turned into a chant. It didn't feel like a debut. It felt like a tradition that had simply been waiting for the room.
Emmanuel Musindi anchored a bill that included MC Allandoz on the mic, Mango Muzik, Steve Kay and DJ Shiti keeping KICC moving deep into the night. The mix of old and new, rural and urban, was the point — and the crowd met it head-on.
This was the night Vulai went from an idea to a movement. Everything that followed — the homecoming in Kakamega, the beach hangout in Mombasa — traces straight back to this room and this crowd.
It's also the first entry in VibePass's own event history — the debut of a platform built to do exactly this: sell out a room, get everyone through the door, and get the organizer paid the same night.
